In 1988 Ronald Reagan made October Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month and Memorial walks popped up all around the country. We took the idea and expanded it to include the loss of children of any age. Our first Day of Remembrance was in 2002 at the First Baptist South Campus (now Southspring). Once The Children’s Park was completed in 2004, it provided the perfect space to gather to remember and celebrate the lives of our children.
The Day of Remembrance is held on the 4th Saturday in October, every year. It includes a roll call of the children represented, words about grief, songs related to grief and concludes with a live butterfly release. We will be meeting in person on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Children with last names beginning A – I will be read out loud at the 10 AM ceremony, while children with last names beginning J – Z will be read at the 2 PM ceremony.
Online registration for our 19th Day of Remembrance will be September 10 – October 15, 2021. To have your child’s name included in the program and on the back of the t-shirts, you must register by October 1.
ONLY ONE REGISTRATION IS NECESSARY PER CHILD. Please note there is a new $10 registration fee, which includes a personalized angel with your child’s name. All proceeds support our bereavement programs provided through The Children’s Park.
